Chatting neurodiversity at the Disability Journalism Forum Conference
20 September 2023
Today, I spoke at the Disability Journalism Forum Conference at New Broadcasting House to improve understanding of neurodiversity.
Hosted in London, by broadcaster and disability specialist Shani Dhanda, a panel titled Why journalism needs disabled people focused on the impact of representation and accessibility in our industry.
The Disability Journalism Forum (DJF) was set up in 2022 by disabled journalists with the aim of improving disabled talent's access into journalism while educating the industry on the advantages of hiring such talent.
Also on the panel were ITV News senior producer Roohi Hasan and freelance writer and editor Punteha van Terheyden. I reflected on the power of positive neurodivergent portrayal as well as discussing my experience as an assistant producer on the BBC's Inside Our Autistic Minds series.
