This evening, I joined Nickelodeon executive vice president Rob Bagshaw on a virtual careers Q&A for the University of Salford.

The event, designed to give recent graduates hints and tips to build a career in the media, also featured Egyptian producer-director Hanan Youssef and University of Salford careers consultant Paula Courchene.

Alumnus Rob started the night by outlining his career path which has seen him become one of the most influential people in American television, having also overseen programmes such RuPaul’s Drag Race and Keeping Up With The Kardashians at Bunim Murray Productions.

After Rob had told his inspirational career story, Hanan and I joined Rob to provide a recent graduate's perspective on making into the media industry. Questions concerned working abroad, pitching programmes and the desired skills needed to succeed.

Paula Courchene, a university careers advisor with 13 years' experience, was also on hand to share expert advice and insight into how the university can help recent graduates. This includes 1:1 careers appointments as well as employability workshops, which, as part of her role, she helps deliver.

I'd like to thank Paul Butlin at the University of Salford for providing me with this opportunity to connect with the freshest media talent to graduate.
