Inside Our Autistic Minds, which I worked on as an assistant producer, has been named as Best Science Documentary at the Grierson Awards.

The 2023 awards, a significant event for British documentary makers, were tonight hosted by comedian Nish Kumar. It was esteemed journalist Jon Snow who presented the BBC team with the trophy.

Produced across 2021 and 2022, Inside Our Autistic Minds was my first and last assistant producer credit in factual television before becoming an on-screen journalist. The series, still available on BBC iPlayer, also picked up rave reviews in the press with The Times awarding it five stars.

Flo Bennett, a contributor in the series, picked up the award and said: "I was so well taken care of. This team are amazing. The duty of care was above and beyond and I want to say that it is totally achievable for you to do that as a team. I felt so well looked after so thank you and thank you for watching."

The power and impact of this programme never ceases to amaze me. It was a huge privilege and responsibility to help shine a light on my community in such a global way and so it is a relief that many in the autistic community felt it was accurate and representative.

I must thank everyone who took part in the series, fellow crew members of the BBC production team and also all those left such kind messages after the episodes broadcast. So many brilliant minds went into making this series and I'm so pleased that everyone's hard work has been recognised.
