On 13 February, I was privileged to attend a speech by radio executive David Lloyd at MediaCityUK on 'how to make great radio'.

David is an experienced broadcaster, consultant and historian with over 35 years in the industry. He has recently written two critically acclaimed books, How to Make Great Radio (2015) and Radio Moments (2017).

The room was gripped by David's passion for the medium, established in Britain by the BBC in 1922. Discussing the importance of audiences, the power of words and techniques to master an interview, David left university media students glowing with radio enlightenment. A Q&A session proved hugely popular with many asking for further insight to aid their assignments.

Martin Griffiths, a fellow student, told me "I have never felt so passionate about radio until I heard David's speech." It really was a great learning experience and David even signed a copy of his book for me to take away. A big thanks to him for his inspirational words of wisdom and insight into the industry.
