Summarising the Giro d’Italia for BBC News around the world
7 May 2024
During the night, my report on the latest stage of the Giro d’Italia was broadcast on BBC One and the BBC News channel.
Also broadcast around the world, my one minute VT summarised the day's events which saw Belgian sprinter Tim Merlier clinch victory in a last-minute scramble on the finishing line.
Translated as the ‘Tour of Italy’, the Giro d’Italia is an elite endurance cycling race first held in 1909. A UCI World Tour Event, this year’s race comprises of 21 stages across the country and across the month of May.
Packaging the day's action into one minute was a good challenge, particularly being relatively new to cycling. It was also a real thrill to awake to see established presenter Olly Foster introduce my first contemporaneous report for BBC News' flagship Sportsday programme.
